How Archipelago is dealing with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dear Friends,

First and foremost, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

During these trying times, we wanted to update you on our response to the current Covid-19 crisis and how that may impact you, our most valued guests, loyal members and followers. At a very early stage during the course of this global outbreak, we implemented significant health, safety and cleaning/disinfecting measures across all our hotels to ensure the health and wellbeing of our staff and valued guests. See below, following this message

We are now working with the national and local governments to monitor the situation as it develops. Our goal is to continue to provide a safe and comfortable environment for our guests and we will continue our services unless a) it becomes unsafe to do so or b) we are asked to temporarily cease trading by the Government. We therefore fully expect to temporarily close some of our hotels under these circumstances. However, being Southeast Asia's largest privately owned and independent hotel company, we are strong, robust and experienced enough to weather this storm. We are confident that any of our hotels that have to temporarily close, will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.

Our teams have never stopped short of giving their very best to serve you from their hearts. We know that their passion for this industry and for you, our guest, will outlast any crisis. For more than 20 years, we have welcomed millions of happy guests to our hotels and have proudly made ourselves a name for being the most trusted hotel group in the Archipelago. We continue to live up to our reputation and you can be assured that we are taking all necessary measures to respond to this pandemic and to provide a safe environment for all our guests and team members.

Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

PS: Here is a 40-min. video interview I recently did with one of our esteemed partners, addressing the situation.

As it has always been, the safety and security of our guests and team members remain our utmost priorities. In response to the Novel Coronavirus, we have taken additional measures to ensure the cleaning and hygiene at all our hotels match the highest international standards at all time. Those measures include:

  • Increased frequency of public areas cleaning, including lobby, elevators, door handles, public bathrooms etc.
  • Use of hospital-grade disinfectant.
  • Increased deployment of antibacterial hand sanitizers.
  • Implementation of effective response procedures, enabling us to act swiftly, professionally and calmly should we be alerted to a case of Coronavirus at the hotel.
  • Avoidance of handshaking among our staff and during interaction with guests. For the moment all our staff will be using the Sanskrit “Namaste” greeting. We encourage all our guests to adopt this wonderful greeting form.
  • Our teams have been instructed to increase the frequency of washing hands and using hand sanitizers. We advise our guests to do the same.
  • Guests and staff are advised to keep a 1-meter distance when speaking to others.
  • All team members have their temperatures measured when they arrive at work.
  • Any staff with a cough or other symptoms are not permitted to work.
  • Our kitchen staff are all wearing face masks and rubber gloves.
  • While our team members undoubtedly understand the seriousness of the situation, they will carry on with joy and smiles and stay calm, avoiding hysteria at all time.

We thank you for your understanding, support and the continued trust. Please enjoy your stay!
