Archipelago’s John Flood: From chasing dreams to industry champion

15 December 2019

Jakarta, Indonesia, 16 December 2019 – John Flood, President and CEO of Archipelago International, Southeast Asia’s largest privately-owned and independent hotel management group, was presented with The Best Industry Marketing Champion 2019 for the Hospitality Sector at the recent Marketeer Of The Year (MOTY) Awards Gala.

The annual MOTY’s Industry Marketing Champion award honors industry executives who have continuously displayed outstanding marketing acumen and leadership.

Since 2006, MarkPlus, Inc., in collaboration with Marketeers and the Indonesia Marketing Association (IMA) have consistently recognized and awarded prestigious and respected Marketing luminaries in Indonesia who have shown exemplary marketing spirit while at the same time made a great impact both on their company’s business performance and the society at large through the Industry Marketing Champion and Marketeer of The Year (MOTY) Award.

Archipelago’s John Flood moved to Indonesia 20 years ago, where he has served as the Group’s President & CEO since 2009. An MBA graduate from the University of Leicester and a true hotelier by heart, he started his remarkable hospitality career in his native
Dublin and went on to work in some of Europe’s most thriving cities, including London, Paris and Copenhagen.

Owing to John’s industry passion, innovative thinking and inspiring leadership, Archipelago International has grown to become the largest hotel group in Indonesia with an impressive force of 15,000+ local employees. With no end in sight, the Group is on track to grow from the domestic leader into a major global player by opening its first hotels in Latin America and the Middle East. Already, Archipelago International is ranked the world’s 78th largest hotel group.

‘It is a great honor to be recognised and I am forever grateful for all the opportunities Indonesia has provided me - and of course to Charles Brookfield, the Founder and Chairman of Archipelago and my great mentor, who has always believed in me and supported me on this exciting journey. This prestigious award is for all the 15,000+ dedicated team members, who relentlessly serve our guests day in, day out, and it motivates me further to contribute to the hospitality industry, create career opportunities for the Indonesian people and support our loyal owners by giving them maximum returns. As I was growing up in a country far away, I never stopped chasing my dreams - and that’s the reason why I stand here today. This is THE ONE message I have for the Indonesian youth and for everybody out there who wants to make a successful career in the hospitality.’
